Pitfalls of Hiring the Wrong DJ/Emcee

• Part-Timer - A Part-time DJ may have a Full-time "real" job that will take presidence over your one-night event. Follow up the week before and the night before to make sure you are still on their schedule.


• Sound Equipment - Some DJs think they can have a quailty performance with home equipment. A home stereo and a iPod will not give you the quality sound you deserve, nor will it give you a crossfade and beat mixing of professional gear.


• Lighting - Don't get caught hiring someone that has three different colored flashing lights who calls it a light show, that was great in the 70's but not today.


• Fog Machine - A DJ that smokes is not a fog machine. A fog machine enhances the light show, see what just a little fog does on our system page.


• Music Collection - Is their music recorded at a high bit rate or just what they could find for free to download on the internet?


• Dependability - Someone getting paid well is much more likely to be on time, make a good impression, dot their i's and cross their t's than someone making $249.


• A discount DJ is hungry - Be prepared to feed them and any helpers AKA friends they may bring along.


• Dress the part - Your DJ should dress the part of an entertainer, a suit, a tuxedo or an over-the-top outfit that matches your event's theme.


• Organization - A quality DJ will meet with you or communicate on what you want to hear, what you do not want played and the entire flow of the night including special announcements and key points highlighted throughout the night.


• Hobby DJ is doing it for fun - Your time schedule is not fun, they may drink during their performance, they may not play your request because they do not have or like that song.


• Is a Part-timer/Hobbiest worth it? - If all you want is music turn on the radio or pop in a mix tape. If you want a full-featured experience plan accordingly. Paying a quality DJ $100 more than a hobbiest can make or break your event!
